It’s a brave and brilliant refocusing of Offenbach energies, virtually a rebirth. Offenbach had quite a long carriere and they made many hits. Lead single “Einleitung” and “1 Aus Dem Keller Kommt Hervor” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. To me Offenbach is the best band ever.
1 Aus Dem Keller Kommt Hervor still maintains something of a specific flourish. 1A He! Du Da! Auf Ein Wort, Mein Sohn on Hoffmanns Erzahlungen is solid and easy to listen to. Other tracks are good but your best bet is to stick with 2 Kann Nicht Schmachten Und Jugendlich Girren. First time I heard 3 Zwei Stunden Noch Vor Mir - Hurtig! Schnelle! was on radio driving in my car and sonically it just sounded amazing.4 Juvallera! Herr Luther, Wir Sind Da! is sonically very melodic with nice haunting verses. The song 5 Es War Einmal Am Hofe Von Eisenack ending is my favorite… so catchy! 6 Pfui! Dieses Bier Ist Abscheulich! makes a person feel cool. Offenbach has created something that grabs you by the heart and gets you moving. Lyrics of 7 Da! Ja, Sie Schlaft! are precise and evocative. This is the kind of song I think of when I think of Offenbach. 8 Bei Gott! Dacht’ Ich Es Doch - Er Hat ‘ne Puppe Von Tragant - This happy song is an ode to optimism and an anthem. 8A Ich Bin’s, Coppelius! - Habe Brillen is the more seemingly obscure song on Hoffmanns Erzahlungen that bear up best to repeated listening. 9 Kein Andrer Hausherr Im Land is perfect. This track makes my mind whirl and vibrate with flowing energy. Ach, Teurer Freund is a exquisite song and it grows on you. Once 10 Ach, Endlich Sind Sie Fort! gets in your head, it will NEVER leave. After you’ve listened to 11 Du Entfliehest, Was Hab’ Ich Getan?, most everything else can’t hold up and is second rate. This song could easily nestle itself onto the world top playlists. 13 Zwischenspiel -Orchester Schone Nacht, Du Liebesnacht - A catchy, upbeat tune. This song has very few things relative to that of it’s predecessor. |titile| is quite refreshing and sets the tone for what is going on in Hoffmanns Erzahlungen. 14A Ich Seh’, Man Amusiert Sich Vortrefflich! is filled with very deep emotions that will truly touch your heart. Listening to 15 Leuchte, Heller Spiegel, Mir you can hear that Offenbach has still amazing chemistry with band members. 15A Mein Engel! rocked my world when I popped it into my car stereo. 16 Unglucksel’ger, Du Ahnst Es Sicher Nicht - Mein Freund is kind of track that compels you to skip back and drink it in one more time before moving on through Hoffmanns Erzahlungen. 16A Schlemihl! - Dacht’ Ich Mir’s Doch pretty much defines how I feel spiritually. Vocal harmonies in this track are great and song structure is just right. 17 Ah, Meine Herren! is a song you cannot help but think about at odd moments in your day. Einleitung is a song that will not reduce you to tears but leave you thinking long after Hoffmanns Erzahlungen have ended. 18 Sie Entfloh, Die Taube So Minnig! is perhaps one of the best tracks of the past decade. 18A Unglucksel’ges Kind is the best music that I have heard from anyone in any area of music. 19 Tag Und Nacht Verteil’ Ich Mich is, without a doubt, my favorite song, ever. 19A Franz! Hier Ist’s! He Franz! Mein Freund! is one of the best records ever. 20 Horst Du Es Tonen Mit Suber Melodie is really the reason why I recommend buying Hoffmanns Erzahlungen. It is succeeded by an outstanding track, however: 20A Was Hast Du?, which shows, blatantly, how much Offenbach has evolved as a singer. A fantastic track full of wonder. 21A Nicht Mehr Singen! is nothing short of a modern masterpiece. 22 Du Wirst Nicht Mehr Singen? - isn’t quite as powerful vocally, but has a beautiful melody. 23 Ach, Mein Kind! Meine Tochter! - arguably the best track on Hoffmanns Erzahlungen album. Zwischenspiel is one of my favorite songs by Offenbach. Within the first few notes of 24A Einleitung it’s perfectly clear that Offenbach is living this song. It’s such an underrated song. This track is just fantastic from start to finish. 28 Ich Bin Es, Deine Muse - Wie Su? Sprichst Du Zu Mir is a song to enjoy for years to come. |titile| is a sure sign of something most of us are experiencing, maturity.
