Various Artists’s debut, ‘Arabian and Oriental music’, does not fit easily into one genre. It’s a brave and brilliant refocusing of Various Artists energies, virtually a rebirth. It’s natural for Various Artists to take a stab at ‘Theme from ‘The Story Of O’ (Ramasutra)’ considering her long-professed love for Madonna. This is one of the best cd’s i have heard through the whole thing.
Straight to the heart (Sina Vodjani) - Well, here we get a bit more meaning. Gypsy rain (Armen Chakmakian) has a beautifully haunting disco flavor. Farruca (Intro) is almost impossible to review. This track is a killer, it just grabs you instantly. |titile| is quite refreshing and sets the tone for what is going on in Arabian and Oriental music. Dark Eyes (Omar Fafuk Tekbilek) - A nice song. Haguere (Hussein El Masry) is marvelous and different song. Kabmix (Barkani) is a song that will not reduce you to tears but leave you thinking long after Arabian and Oriental music have ended. Missing Persons (Mychael Danna) is such a cool and optimistic song that things can get just better. The First Twilight (Deep Forest) is probably the most interesting track on Arabian and Oriental music. Astrakan cafe (2) (Anouar Brahem Trio) is a perfect song and it grows on you. Fever- Stereo MCs (Chet Selwood) is a song you cannot help but think about at odd moments in your day. Track14 (Nitin Sawhney) is the albums lead single as well as biggest hit.
