It’s a brave and brilliant refocusing of Various Artists energies, virtually a rebirth. Lead single “Nilla Pizzi - Grazie dei fiori(1951-1)” and “Nilla Pizzi - Vola colomba(1952-1)” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. I am not a real Pop music type of person, but i have to admit ‘Festival di Sanremo (1951-1971) cd1′ really is amazing. It is very deep stuff - very exciting
I think Nilla Pizzi - Vola colomba(1952-1) is the best song Various Artists has ever done. Nilla Pizzi - Papaveri e papere (1952-2) is nothing short of a modern masterpiece. A unique and uplifting song. Nilla Pizzi - Campanaro(1953-2) is a nice, innocuous song, and much better than anything Various Artists released so far. Gino Latilla - Vecchio scarpone(1953-3) is sonically very melodic with nice haunting verses. What sets Carla Boni - Acque amare(1953-F) apart is Various Artists’s innovative and organic way of creating atmospheres. This is the kind of song I think of when I think of Various Artists. This is one of those songs that musicians strive to write and create. Only one song from Festival di Sanremo (1951-1971) cd1 named Natalino Otto - Mogliettina(1954-8) really got me. I believe Claudio Villa - Incantatella(1955-4) is one of the most astounding, heartfelt songs ever written. In Franca Raimondi - Aprite le finestre(1956-1) you won’t find any flashy solos. This song stands out greatly from the others. Claudio Villa - Corde della mia chitarra(1957-1) is the gorgeous blend of moody yet optimistic tunes. Once you hear Carla Boni - Una casetta in Canada(1957-4), you will listen to it over and over. Various Artists must have run out of lyrics on the next track Claudio Villa & Gino Latilla - Il pericolo numero 1(1957-6). Domenico Modugno - Volare (Nel blu dipinto di blu)(1958-1) is the more seemingly obscure song on Festival di Sanremo (1951-1971) cd1 that bear up best to repeated listening. There is perfect mix of music in Nilla Pizzi - L’edera(1958-2). Domenico Modugno - Piove (Ciao Ciao Bambina) (1959-1) - another great track from the Festival di Sanremo (1951-1971) cd1 album. Jula de Palma - Tua (1959-4) - My least favorite song on this album.
