It has been twelve years Various Artists’ last studio CD, “Frank Duval - NULL” which won Array Emmy Awards and was nominated for album of the year. After seeing Rasputin (Boney’M), I had to have a good Various Artists cd. Mila Sparrow has compared writing for Various Artists’s new album to that on ‘Frank Duval - NULL’ - but has declared the lyrics will be even more terrifying. Another great offering from Various Artists.
Hun Han Dschinghis Khan is the gorgeous blend of moody yet optimistic tunes. Russian Lullaby (E-Type) had me crying as I was able to relate so well. As always, Various Artists’s lyrics are worth listening to again and again. Face To Wind (Frank Duval) is the song that really did it for me. Requiem (London Boys) is possibly the most mysterious and inexplicable track Various Artists ever produced. I find myself hearing bits of Hands Up (Ottowan) here and there throughout my waking hours. The House Of The Rising (Santa Esmeralda) is the more seemingly obscure song on Frank Duval - NULL that bear up best to repeated listening. You’re In The Army Now (Status QUO) is the albums biggest surprise.
