Various Artists was a flawless and timeless record. Not surprising from Various Artists and Hitzone 25 together. Lead single “Aisha (Outlandish)” and “Left Of Center (Dewi)” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. It has been seven years Various Artists’ last studio CD, “Hitzone 25″ which won Array Academy Awards and was nominated for album of the year. IT makes me wanna dance!
It is succeeded by an outstanding track, however: Left Of Center (Dewi), which shows, blatantly, how much Various Artists has evolved as a singer. This is probably my favorite song on the album. Anyplace, Anywhere, Anytime (Nena & Kim Wilde) catches attention immediately, This song is dynamic and dramatic. This Love Is Real (Jim) is absolutely incredible. It’s such an underrated song. Never Gonna Leave Your Side (Daniel Bedingfield) very upbeat. Miss Independent (Kelly Clarkson) is just a great song and one well worth taking the time to give it a good listen. I can’t stop humming along Intuition (Jewel). I like to sing along with Breathe (feat. Sean Paul) (Blu Cantrell), though I mess up the lyrics sometimes. Overall a nice softer song. Like Glue (Sean Paul) - This happy song is an ode to optimism and an anthem. This track is possibly the biggest guilty pleasure on Hitzone 25. Various Artists allows each song to breathe and flourish. In The Shadows (The Rasmus) is a romantic if not formulaic ditty. Once you hear Spirit In The Sky (Gareth Gates), you will listen to it over and over. Senorita (Justin Timberlake) - A strong beat. Go Dance! (4 Girlz) is the albums biggest surprise. Baby I Love U! (Jennifer Lopez) is kind of track that compels you to skip back and drink it in one more time before moving on through Hitzone 25. Chipz In Black (Who You Gonna Call) (Ch!pz) is sonically very melodic with nice haunting verses.
