Self-described as Pop with lots of words, Various Artists comes out swinging on perhaps his best album to date. ‘Nouvelle Vague Presents New Wave’ kicks the album off with a blast of pure pop energy. Lead single “You Really Got Me” and “Mother’s Little Helper” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. If I may, I suggest “You Really Got Me”. That one song is amazing!
Mother’s Little Helper sets the tone for the entire album. This track is a fabulous selection of easy listening, suitable for any age, taste or occasion. If You Want Me To Stay gives good insight into the truths. Waiting For The Man - This one is what it is: a powerful, primal invitation to love. This track is clearly meant to showcase Various Artists’s vocal abilities. The Boy From Ipanema is kind of track that compels you to skip back and drink it in one more time before moving on through Nouvelle Vague Presents New Wave. Je Suis Venue Te Dire Que Je M’en Vais is flawed, nonetheless pretty good song. I like the agression and power of Route Nationale 7. I find myself hearing bits of The Model here and there throughout my waking hours. Jet Boy Jet Girl is a strong cut, one of many. You have to get essence of the Walk On By’s power, to truly understand this masterpiece. On Broadway one is one of the better boring ones. Move On Up is another strong production from Various Artists. Although I prefer the faster paced music, I think Dance To The Music is my favorite song on Nouvelle Vague Presents New Wave. In Summer In The City it becomes nowhere more obvious that Various Artists has yet to define own style. In The Year 2525 is another favourite of mine. People Are Strange is a song that takes you on the journey before it reaches the conclusion. I Heard It Through The Grapevine is a song to savor, to listen to from every angle. Reflections - This one has a powerful beat and a good melody. Fame one of the most beautiful songs i’ve ever heard. Once you hear Heroes, you will listen to it over and over. Arnold Layne is the first taste of the new album. Sister Ray is the marvelous blend of moody yet optimistic tunes.
