It’s a brave and brilliant refocusing of Chico Buarque energies, virtually a rebirth. I am not a real Latin music type of person, but i have to admit ‘Opera Do Malandro’ really is amazing. On the France charts, superstar Chico Buarque’s career stalled before it left the starting gate. Opera Do Malandro is not something you should pass up.
Hino De Duran is filled with very deep emotions that will truly touch your heart. Outside of the singles, my favorite song on Opera Do Malandro is Viver Do Amor. It’s such an underrated song. This song stands out greatly from the others. Doze Anos is new, fresh, and hypnotizing. O Casamento Dos Pequenos Burgueses still maintains something of a specific flourish. This is probably my favorite song on the album. This is the most melodic ambitious and satisfying track in Opera Do Malandro. Folhetim had me crying as I was able to relate so well. Ai Se Eles Me Pegam Agora is the funkiest number on the album. From the sound of it, I believe the song can be a big radio hit. The beautiful sound of this track makes you want to close your eyes and sway away with the music. This is one hell of a track. Pedaco De Mim is a romantic if not formulaic ditty. Opera Do Malandro couldn’t start better than with the up up-beat title track Opera. One of the more genuine-sounding songs is O Malandro No 2 (Die Moritat Von Mackie Messer).
