fourteen years ago, John Barry briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “From Russia with Love”. I am not a real Soundtrack music type of person, but i have to admit ‘The Collection 40 Years of Film Music CD1′ really is amazing. This fifteen-song debut EP shows the promise that John Barry has. The Collection 40 Years of Film Music CD1 touched my soul like nothing else.
From Russia with Love is the best music that I have heard from anyone in any area of music. From Russia with Love - 007 hits the heart. In Goldfinger the music gets its power. The Ipcress File have really caught my ear and imagination. The Knack on The Collection 40 Years of Film Music CD1 is solid and easy to listen to. Mister Moses is probably the highlight of the album. The Collection 40 Years of Film Music CD1 couldn’t start better than with the up up-beat title track Thunderball. As always, John Barry’s lyrics are worth listening to again and again. Born Free is a strong cut, one of many. I find myself hearing bits of The Quiller Memorandum here and there throughout my waking hours. In You only Live Twice it becomes nowhere more obvious that John Barry has yet to define own style. The Girl with the Sun in her Hair has a fun tempo. Deadfall is another favourite of mine.
