Mila Sparrow has compared writing for Oscar Peterson’s new album to that on ‘Jazz Masters 16′ - but has declared the lyrics will be even more terrifying. Oscar Peterson is one of my favourite bands of all time.
Woody ‘N’ You gets you up and jumping. Willow Weep For Me is simple, dignified and effective, Oscar Peterson refusing to over-emote, and demonstrating that less is more. Younger Than Springtime is really the reason why I recommend buying Jazz Masters 16. West Coast Blues (4:06) Not one of my favorites, but for a lot of people this is one of their best songs. Love For Sale is a bit of a show-tune. Norreen’s Nocturne is Oscar Peterson’s best work in years. This track is just fantastic from start to finish. Blues Etude gives good insight into the truths. Within the first few notes of Gal in Calico it’s perfectly clear that Oscar Peterson is living this song. You can find feelings on this piece of art. In Bossa Beguine the music gets its power. This song is dynamic and dramatic. Honey Dripper is perfect. Someday My Prince Will Come is one of the coolest songs Oscar Peterson has ever recorded.
