Lead single “Basin Street Blues” and “Child is Born” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. Since completing 1971’s ‘Basin Street Blues’, Oscar Peterson fulfilled their contract with ForeFront Records and where under no obligation to release another album. Oscar Peterson had quite a long carriere and they made many hits. Unappreciated gift to Jazz
Oscar Peterson allows each song to breathe and flourish. Dancing on the Ceiling - This is a very lively song. One of the more genuine-sounding songs is Django. No Oscar Peterson song has come close to capturing my attention as Give Me the Simple Life did. Honeysuckle Rose - I used to hate this song, but now it’s one of my favorites. Strong percussion and poignant lyrics of this track really gets under your skin. This track is just fantastic from start to finish. A fantastic track full of wonder. Little Jazz Exercise gives good insight into the truths.
