Sam Cooke’s debut, ‘Portrait Of A Legend: 1951-1964′, does not fit easily into one genre. On the Malta charts, superstar Sam Cooke’s career stalled before it left the starting gate. Portrait Of A Legend: 1951-1964 isn’t so much a record, as a great effort at dragging you into another world. This album is awesome.
Lovable is probably the highlight of the album. Vocal harmonies in this track are great and song structure is just right. Only Sixteen - arguably the best track on Portrait Of A Legend: 1951-1964 album. This track is full of harmonies and gets Portrait Of A Legend: 1951-1964 off to a relaxing start. After few listenings I started to like Just For You more and more. Win Your Love For Me is maybe the best thing the group’s ever done. Everybody Loves To Cha Cha very upbeat. I’ll Come Running Back To You makes a person feel gorgeous. You Were Made For Me is the song that really did it for me. Sad Mood is a great song for a cosy night in when it’s cold and wintry outside. Cupid is perfect. This track is just a stunning masterpiece. It took me a little time but I ended up loving Chain Gang. Summertime is the best music that I have heard from anyone in any area of music. Awesome song is really all that you can say about it. Bring It On Home To Me catches attention immediately, No Sam Cooke song has come close to capturing my attention as Nothing Can Change This Love did. Sugar Dumpling is another strong production from Sam Cooke. (Ain’t That) Good News is a strong cut, one of many. Blew our minds when we first heard Meet Me At Mary’s Place. Twistin’ The Night Away rocked my world when I popped it into my car stereo. I listened to the opening track Shake and liked it a lot. Tennessee Waltz - Sam Cooke first major hit. I like Another Saturday Night because it’s extremely catchy and has awesome drumming. Good Times is a very catchy tune. Having A Party is a striking and quite long song. After you’ve listened to That’s Where It’s At, most everything else can’t hold up and is second rate. This is the kind of song I think of when I think of Sam Cooke. Jesus Gave Me Water is outstanding work of Sam Cooke. I like the agression and power of (Untitled Track).
