After debuting at No. 1 last week, Boomtown Rats’s album The Fine Art Of Surfacing falls to No. 2 with 474,000, a sales slide of 92%. For older fans The Fine Art Of Surfacing will put a massive smile accross your face. Stanley Donwood has compared writing for Boomtown Rats’s new album to that on ‘The Fine Art Of Surfacing’ - but has declared the lyrics will be even more terrifying. Boomtown Rats “The Fine Art Of Surfacing” is an amazing album.
Diamond Smiles has a beautifully haunting disco flavor. Wind Chill Factor (Minus Zero) - This one is lively and fun. After about the third Having My Picture Taken listen through, I began to believe this song is Boomtown Rats’s essence. Sleep (Fingers’ Lullaby) one is one of the better boring ones. I Don’t Like Mondays is one of the coolest songs Boomtown Rats has ever recorded. Listening to Nothing Happened Today you can hear that Boomtown Rats has still amazing chemistry with band members. The opening track Keep It Up is very much like you would expect from other albums. Nice N Neat is just a great song and one well worth taking the time to give it a good listen. Once When The Night Comes gets in your head, it will NEVER leave. Simple and heartfelt closing track Episode #3 closes The Fine Art Of Surfacing on a high note. Real Different (B-Side) is one of these floating songs. How Do You Do (B-Side) has to be one of the most beautiful tracks on the entire album. Late Last Night (B-Side) is the most memorable and perfect. Although I prefer the faster paced music, I think Nothing Happened Today (Live In Cardiff) is my favorite song on The Fine Art Of Surfacing.
