five years ago, Merle Haggard briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “I Started Loving You Again”. It has been five years Merle Haggard’ last studio CD, “Down Every Road (CD 2)” which won Array Emmy Awards and was nominated for album of the year. IF YOU LIKE ALL Merle Haggard’S SONG GO FOR IT! The Legend Of Bonnie and Clyde and I Started Loving You Again is really good.
I Started Loving You Again is so unique, as each one of the songs is. Is This The Beginning Of The End is a song to enjoy for years to come. Within the first few notes of I’ll Always Know it’s perfectly clear that Merle Haggard is living this song. Mama Tried is the more seemingly obscure song on Down Every Road (CD 2) that bear up best to repeated listening. In The Good Old Days (When The Times Were Bad) is flawed, nonetheless pretty good song. Teach Me To Forget - A catchy, upbeat tune. I’m Looking For My Mind gives good insight into the truths. The Day The Rains Came is one of those songs that will put you in a good mood. Although I prefer the faster paced music, I think California Blues (Blue Yodel #4) is my favorite song on Down Every Road (CD 2). I can’t stop humming along I Take A Lot Of Pride In What I Am. One listen to the sheer beauty of I’m Bringin’ Home Good News was all I needed. Once you hear I Can’t Hold Myself In Line, you will listen to it over and over. It Meant Goodbye To Me When You Said Hello To Him - is a breath or fresh air compared to many previous songs of Merle Haggard. One of the more genuine-sounding songs is Hungry Eyes. Silver Wings is nothing short of a modern masterpiece. Waitin’ For A Train (2:51) a good melody. There is amazing mix of music in Jimmie Rodgers’ Last Blue Yodel. I have all of Merle Haggard’s tracks and California Cottonfields is probably the most his introspective effort. Outside of the singles, my favorite song on Down Every Road (CD 2) is White Line Fever. It’s so catchy, it’s amazing. Okie From Muskogee is just simply stunning. I Can’t Stop Loving You gives taste of what makes Merle Haggard special as a musician. In Huntsville the light shines equally on lyrics, vocals and instrumentation. Irma Jackson is a strong cut, one of many. The Fightin’ Side Of Me is pretty funky and mellow. I’ll Be A Hero (When I Strike) is one of these floating songs.
