Self-described as Jazz with lots of words, Stan Getz comes out swinging on perhaps his best album to date. After debuting at No. 1 last week, Stan Getz’s album Big Band Bossa Nova falls to No. 2 with 150,000, a sales slide of 70%. Stan Getz’s debut, ‘Big Band Bossa Nova’, does not fit easily into one genre. Big Band Bossa Nova constantly brilliant.
Balanco No Samba [Street Dance] is the more seemingly obscure song on Big Band Bossa Nova that bear up best to repeated listening. When I listen to Melancolico [Melancholy Melody] in my car when traffic ain’t going so good. Entre Amigos [Sympathy Between Friends] - A nice song. The first time I listened to Chega de Saudade [Too Much Longing] I was struck by its excellent sound. Song Noite Triste [Night Sadness] is actually a funny song. Some of the arrangements found on Big Band Bossa Nova are surprisingly edgy. Listening to Bim Bom you can hear that Stan Getz has still amazing chemistry with band members.
