Since Stan Getz last CD (Cool Velvet and Voices) on ForeFront Records back in 1960, I have felt a massive void in my life. There is so much to love about Stan Getz, starting with incredible harmonies, songwriting chops and stellar stage presence. There is no doubt that Stan Getz has talent. Exciting stuff.
It Never Entered has a beautifully haunting disco flavor. After about the third Early Autumn listen through, I began to believe this song is Stan Getz’s essence. When I Go, I Go All The Way is the first taste of the new album. A New Town Is A Blue Town is one of these floating songs. ‘Round Midnight is simple, dignified and effective, Stan Getz refusing to over-emote, and demonstrating that less is more. Born To Be Blue is a very good song maybe surprisingly better than you at first might’ve imagined. Whisper Not is astounding and different song. Good-bye is another favourite of mine. Nature Boy - For me, this is the best of the album. I love the melodic melody of Once and to this day it makes me feel good. I Didn’t Know What Time It Was is the album’s biggest hit, I think. Nica’s Dream very upbeat. A great put together song. Get Cool Velvet and Voices and turn on Keep Me In Your Heart (Chiedilo A Chi Vuol) if you are going to sip your wine late at night. Simple and heartfelt closing track Zigeuner Song closes Cool Velvet and Voices on a high note. The song feels complete. Where Flamingos Fly defines beauty, yet is as unforgiving as an astringent stone. Midnight Samba is pretty funky and mellow. Infinidad is the most memorable and gorgeous. Darling Joe - another great track from the Cool Velvet and Voices album.
