It has been six years Mavado’ last studio CD, “Gangsta For Life The Symphony Of David Brooks-RETAiL CD” which won Array Grammy Awards and was nominated for album of the year. Lead single “Parental Advisory” and “Angriest Introduction” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. Gangsta For Life The Symphony Of David Brooks-RETAiL CD carries a very emotional theme throughout the album. I greatly enjoyed this CD.
Angriest Introduction one of the best in my collection. This track is just fantastic from start to finish. I like to sing along with Weh Dem A Do, though I mess up the lyrics sometimes. Opening track A Father’s Prayer shows the best of Mavado. They Fear Me is, without a doubt, my favorite song, ever. Definition Of A Gangster is a very catchy tune. Dreaming is outstanding work of Mavado. Mavado is hitting on all cylinders in Don’t Cry. I can’t stop humming along Casava Piece Radio. Mavado rocks harder than ever with Dying Feat. Serani. I think David’s Interlude is the best song Mavado has ever done. Such hits like Top Shotta Nah Miss will leave you hooked. Joey D. Ratt is probably the most interesting track on Gangsta For Life The Symphony Of David Brooks-RETAiL CD. What sets Last Night apart is Mavado’s innovative and organic way of creating atmospheres. A Snitch’s Eulogy as well as many of songs is a short story in miniature. Amazing Grace stands out to me for its audacious melody and sheer beauty. Music of Touch The Road is gentle, never overbearing. Me And My Dogs is a song that definitely grows on you and becomes an album favorite. Vocal harmonies in this track are great and song structure is just right. Overall a nice softer song. Squeeze Breast is a song to savor, to listen to from every angle. Heart Beat is one of these floating songs. Sadness is worth the money. Born & Raised is a astounding sing-along.
