After seeing Minor Swing, I had to have a good Django Reinhardt cd. It’s a brave and brilliant refocusing of Django Reinhardt energies, virtually a rebirth. IF YOU LIKE ALL Django Reinhardt’S SONG GO FOR IT! Overall, I would highly recommend The Indispensable 1949-1950 [US 2 Disc] Disc 1 CD.
Beyond the Sea is almost impossible to review. I can’t stop humming along The World Is Waiting for the Sunrise. I have all of Django Reinhardt’s tracks and Django Castle (Le Manoir de Mes Reves) is probably the most his introspective effort. Opening track Dream of You shows the best of Django Reinhardt. I like the idea behind Menilmontant. It’s Only a Paper Moon is the album’s biggest hit, I think. Other tracks are good but your best bet is to stick with I Saw Stars. Get The Indispensable 1949-1950 [US 2 Disc] Disc 1 and turn on Nuages if you are going to sip your wine late at night. This is the kind of song I think of when I think of Django Reinhardt. The song feels complete. Still going through The Indispensable 1949-1950 [US 2 Disc] Disc 1 and coming to appreciate A Tisket a Tasket more and more with every listen. September Song is beautiful, yet underrated track. Music of Heavy Artillery (Artillerie Lourde) is gentle, never overbearing. Improvisation and Tchaikowsky’s “Pathetique” Andante is a bit of a show-tune. All of songs on The Indispensable 1949-1950 [US 2 Disc] Disc 1 and have something to say letting alone Djangology. No Django Reinhardt song has come close to capturing my attention as Ou Es-Tu, Mon Amour? (Where Are You, My Love?) did. First time I heard Russian Song Medley was on radio driving in my car and sonically it just sounded amazing.
