It has been fourteen years Placido Domingo’ last studio CD, “100 Anos Mariachi - 1″ which won Array Grammy Awards and was nominated for album of the year. There is so much to love about Placido Domingo, starting with incredible harmonies, songwriting chops and stellar stage presence. Nowhere is this more so than on their re-working of Placido Domingo on ‘Paloma querida’. Great Classical right here!
The opening track La malaguena is very much like you would expect from other albums. As always, Placido Domingo’s lyrics are worth listening to again and again. De que manera te olvido is a song to savor, to listen to from every angle. Como olvidar which is my favorite is a truly Placido Domingo sounding song. Tequila con limon is the most memorable and astounding. The sound of La rondalla is difficult to describe, as it seems to squirm in a sensual manner, unlike anything ever created. Ella - a classic song. Mas fuerte que yo is a very catchy tune. Ay, Jalisco no te rajes sets the tone for the entire album.
