After debuting at No. 1 last week, Soul Asylum’s album Grave Dancers Union falls to No. 2 with 638,000, a sales slide of 72%. seven years ago, Soul Asylum briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “Black Gold”. On Grave Dancers Union album, Soul Asylum have renewed their membership in the ‘if it ain’t broke…’ school of songwriting. Smart music for smart people.
In Black Gold the music gets its power. Runaway Train is one of the best records ever. Keep It Up is sonically very melodic with nice haunting verses. Outside of the singles, my favorite song on Grave Dancers Union is Homesick. So much energy, so exciting a sound.New World is another strong production from Soul Asylum. I find myself hearing bits of April Fool here and there throughout my waking hours. Although I prefer the faster paced music, I think Without A Trace is my favorite song on Grave Dancers Union. There is cool mix of music in Growing Into You. This track is nearly perfect if not perfect. The Sun Maid - To me, this is the best song on the Grave Dancers Union.
