There is so much to love about Carlos Gardel, starting with incredible harmonies, songwriting chops and stellar stage presence. Now signed to Carlos Gardel’s Mute Records, the title track from second album “Todo Gardel 1927 Vol.1″ leads Carlos Gardel’s back-to-school campaign. Nowhere is this more so than on their re-working of Carlos Gardel on ‘Bulincito de mi vida’. I greatly enjoyed this CD.
Simple and heartfelt closing track Hopa…hopa…hopa closes Todo Gardel 1927 Vol.1 on a high note. This track is possibly the biggest guilty pleasure on Todo Gardel 1927 Vol.1. Gajito de cedron is possibly the most mysterious and inexplicable track Carlos Gardel ever produced. The sound of Sos de Chiclana is difficult to describe, as it seems to squirm in a sensual manner, unlike anything ever created. The opening track El sueno is very much like you would expect from other albums. Che Mariano gives good insight into the truths. Carnaval is the song that really did it for me. In this song fans will recognize the unique vocals of Carlos Gardel. Federacion motivates you to get up and do something to improve your life and the life of others. It took me a little time but I ended up loving La ultima copa. Besos que matan is a song that will not reduce you to tears but leave you thinking long after Todo Gardel 1927 Vol.1 have ended. Insomnio is absolutely incredible. Carlos Gardel sings Muneca de carne in such a comforting, confident voice that you can’t help but be moved. One of the more genuine-sounding songs is Araca Corazon. El poncho del amor stands out to me for its audacious melody and sheer beauty. Ventanita de arrabal is a excellent sing-along. I find myself hearing bits of Un tropezon here and there throughout my waking hours. It’s also one of those rare songs that touchingly comfort the listener. Por donde andara is one of my favorite songs by Carlos Gardel.
