It has been seven years Carlos Gardel’ last studio CD, “Todo Gardel 1930-1931″ which won Array Grammy Awards and was nominated for album of the year. There is so much to love about Carlos Gardel, starting with incredible harmonies, songwriting chops and stellar stage presence. While no new Carlos Gardel album is in sight, the artist has been road testing new songs during 0 tour in North America. Todo Gardel 1930-1931 touched my soul like nothing else.
Rosas de otono actually sounds so joyous, that you can practically see a smile on Carlos Gardel’s face. Senda florida is beautiful, yet underrated track. This song is very powerful, its catchy melody will have you singing along in no time. Confesion is the album’s biggest hit, I think. Tomo y obligo is possibly the best song Carlos Gardel has come up. Once you hear Taconeando, you will listen to it over and over. The opening track Yo no se que me han hecho tus ojos is very much like you would expect from other albums. Madreselva is a great opener for Todo Gardel 1930-1931. Quejas del alma - This happy song is an ode to optimism and an anthem. Overall a nice softer song. Ojos maulas is a song that takes you on the journey before it reaches the conclusion. Riojana mia one is one of the better boring ones. Todo Gardel 1930-1931 couldn’t start better than with the up up-beat title track Duelo criollo. Carlos Gardel is one of artists that allow his songs like Madre hay una sola to stand on their own and be heard. I hope to keep hearing Carlos Gardel works for a long time to come. Hasta que ardan los candiles is a great song for a cosy night in when it’s cold and wintry outside. Gotas de veneno is the song that really did it for me.
