John Digester has compared writing for Ella Fitzgerald’s new album to that on ‘One Side Of Me Vol.1′ - but has declared the lyrics will be even more terrifying. I am not a real Jazz music type of person, but i have to admit ‘One Side Of Me Vol.1′ really is amazing. Self-described as Jazz with lots of words, Ella Fitzgerald comes out swinging on perhaps his best album to date. I Love One Side Of Me Vol.1 from start to finish!
I Let A Tear Fall In The River is the funkiest number on the album. One of the songs that always stick in my mind is The Dipsy Doodle because the melody in the chorus is so good. I believe Don’t Worry ‘Bout Me is one of the most perfect, heartfelt songs ever written. Voice of Ella Fitzgerald in I Was Doing Alright is honest and guitar work is subtle and poignant. It’s Wonderful is absolutely incredible. This track makes my mind whirl and vibrate with flowing energy. Starlight Hour is a medium tempo tune. Looking For A Boy defines beauty, yet is as unforgiving as an astringent stone. In Time Alone Will Tell full palet of sound is used by Ella Fitzgerald to accentuate the presentation. It took me a little time but I ended up loving Rhythm And Romance. This is probably my favorite song on the album. Imagination is outstanding work of Ella Fitzgerald. Music in Three Little Words is exquisite as in all tracks of One Side Of Me Vol.1. The One I Love Belongs To Somebody Else is really the reason why I recommend buying One Side Of Me Vol.1. In When My Sugar Walks Down The Street the music gets its power. Can Anyone Explain? hits the heart. Overall a nice softer song. Blew our minds when we first heard Crying My Heart Out For You. My Man is nothing short of a modern masterpiece. Still going through One Side Of Me Vol.1 and coming to appreciate A Tisket A Tasket more and more with every listen. My Last Goodbye is perfect. Baby What Else Can I Do rocked my world when I popped it into my car stereo. As always, Ella Fitzgerald’s lyrics are worth listening to again and again. This track is a fabulous selection of easy listening, suitable for any age, taste or occasion.
