This compilation contains all of the biggest hits by Ella Fitzgerald. It’s a brave and brilliant refocusing of Ella Fitzgerald energies, virtually a rebirth. There is so much to love about Ella Fitzgerald, starting with incredible harmonies, songwriting chops and stellar stage presence. This is what good Jazz should be.
Musically They All Laughed is superior to other tracks in Sings the George and Ira Gershwin Song Book (CD2) CD2. Once you hear My Cousin In Milwaukee, you will listen to it over and over. After about the third Somebody From Somewhere listen through, I began to believe this song is Ella Fitzgerald’s essence. This track is a killer, it just grabs you instantly. Clap Yo’ Hands has to be one of the most beautiful tracks on the entire album. For You, For Me, For Evermore is a great song to contemplate the modern music and what it really is all about. It’s very catchy and easy to get into which is what you want in a song. This song is like perfectly aged vintage bordeaux wine not a tequila shot. Strike Up The Band is maybe the best thing the group’s ever done. Soon gives taste of what makes Ella Fitzgerald special as a musician. Within the first few notes of I’ve Got A Crush On You it’s perfectly clear that Ella Fitzgerald is living this song. Bidin’ My Time is the first taste of the new album. Aren’t You Kind Of Glad We Did? is the album’s biggest hit, I think. A great put together song. “The Half Of It, Dearie” Blues - This one has a powerful beat and a good melody. I Was Doing All Right is the best music that I have heard from anyone in any area of music. He Loves and She Loves is pretty funky and mellow.
