The Harold Arlen Songbook (Volume One) is an amazing album, racked with beauty. After seeing Blues In the Night, I had to have a good Ella Fitzgerald cd. There were many famous songs of Ella Fitzgerald available. The Harold Arlen Songbook (Volume One) is the best essence of Ella Fitzgerald.
It’s so catchy, it’s amazing. Stormy Weather is perhaps one of the best tracks of the past decade. Sing My Heart is a romantic if not formulaic ditty. Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea is possibly the most mysterious and inexplicable track Ella Fitzgerald ever produced. My Shining Hour - Okay, I just talked about depth. Hooray for Love - isn’t quite as powerful vocally, but has a beautiful melody. Lyrics of This Time the Dream’s On Me are precise and evocative. That Old Black Magic has a fun tempo. I’ve Got the World on a String is probably the highlight of the album. Let’s Take a Walk Around the Block (4:01) - Oh, this is one of my favorites! Ill Wind is a very good song maybe surprisingly better than you at first might’ve imagined. Ac-cent-tchu-ate the Positive is a very catchy tune.
