Since Ella Fitzgerald last CD (The Irving Berlin Songbook Vol) on Mute Records back in 1958, I have felt a massive void in my life. This compilation contains all of the biggest hits by Ella Fitzgerald. I am not a real Jazz music type of person, but i have to admit ‘The Irving Berlin Songbook Vol’ really is amazing. This album is in perfect progression from Ella Fitzgerald!
This is one of those songs that musicians strive to write and create. Music of Suppertime is gentle, never overbearing. Lyrics of You’re Laughing At Me are precise and evocative. Vocal harmonies in this track are great and song structure is just right. Let Yourself Go is just a great song and one well worth taking the time to give it a good listen. Heat Wave is a marvelous, simple song by Ella Fitzgerald at the top of his game. Such hits like You Can Have Her (Him) will leave you hooked. Ella Fitzgerald emotions are reflected through Isn’t This A Lovely Day? (To B. Russian Lullaby is just simply stunning. Puttin’ On The Ritz has a fun tempo. You Keep Coming Back Like A So is so unique, as each one of the songs is. Get Thee Behind Me Satan as well as many of songs is a short story in miniature. Reaching For The Moon is a great opener for The Irving Berlin Songbook Vol. I think Alexander’s Ragtime Band is the best song Ella Fitzgerald has ever done. Slumming On Park Avenue - I like this one. The Song Is Ended (But The Mel is a pleasing, and full of overall coherence that goes beyond other creations. This song is like perfectly aged vintage bordeaux wine not a tequila shot. No Ella Fitzgerald song has come close to capturing my attention as How About Me? did. I’m Putting All My Eggs In One is simple, dignified and effective, Ella Fitzgerald refusing to over-emote, and demonstrating that less is more. Cheek To Cheek sets the tone for the entire album. Now It Can Be Told on The Irving Berlin Songbook Vol is solid and easy to listen to. Ella Fitzgerald sings Always in such a comforting, confident voice that you can’t help but be moved. The song I Used To Be Color Blind ending is my favorite… so catchy! Song It’s A Lovely Day Today is actually a funny song. Nice and different song. Voice and instruments in Change Partners complement each other. How Deep Is The Ocean is astounding. All By Myself is almost impossible to review. This is the kind of song I think of when I think of Ella Fitzgerald. Ella Fitzgerald sings his heart out in I’ve Got My Love To Keep Me Wa. Remember is one of the coolest songs Ella Fitzgerald has ever recorded.
