On the Norway charts, superstar Ella Fitzgerald’s career stalled before it left the starting gate. Stanley Donwood has compared writing for Ella Fitzgerald’s new album to that on ‘The Johnny Mercer Songbook’ - but has declared the lyrics will be even more terrifying. This is the first studio album from Ella Fitzgerald since bad diagnosis in 1964. Lots of variety between tracks. My favorite is Early Autumn
Early Autumn - Check out that bassline! Day In-Day Out as well as many of songs is a short story in miniature. Laura is the albums biggest surprise. This Time The Dream’s On Me is a song to savor, to listen to from every angle. Skylark is possibly the best song Ella Fitzgerald has come up. One of the more genuine-sounding songs is Single ‘O. In Something Gotta Give you won’t find any flashy solos. What sets Trav’lin’ Light apart is Ella Fitzgerald’s innovative and organic way of creating atmospheres. Midnight Sun is a great song for a cosy night in when it’s cold and wintry outside. Ella Fitzgerald has astounded me with this amazing track. This song has very few things relative to that of it’s predecessor.
