This album has some very good songs like Petite Marie and Les Murs De Poussiere. Lead single “Petite Marie” and “Les Murs De Poussiere” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. Since completing 2007’s ‘Petite Marie’, Francis Cabrel fulfilled their contract with SixSteps records and where under no obligation to release another album. Oh yes, this album gets Array out of Array
Les Murs De Poussiere is nothing but pure genius. Outside of the singles, my favorite song on L’ Essentiel 1977-2007 (cd1) is Les Chemins De Traverse. Je L’aime A Mourir - Well, here we get a bit more meaning. After you’ve listened to C’etait L’hiver, most everything else can’t hold up and is second rate. La Dame De Haute-Savoie actually sounds so joyous, that you can practically see a smile on Francis Cabrel’s face. L’encre De Tes Yeux is new, fresh, and hypnotizing. Awesome song is really all that you can say about it. I love the melodic melody of Ma Place Dans Le Trafic and to this day it makes me feel good. This song is dynamic and dramatic. First time I heard La Fille Qui M’accompagne was on radio driving in my car and sonically it just sounded amazing. This is the kind of song I think of when I think of Francis Cabrel. Still going through L’ Essentiel 1977-2007 (cd1) and coming to appreciate Les Chevaliers Cathares more and more with every listen. Within the first few notes of Said Et Mohamed it’s perfectly clear that Francis Cabrel is living this song. A fantastic track full of wonder. The sound of Je Te Suivrai is difficult to describe, as it seems to squirm in a sensual manner, unlike anything ever created. Il Faudra Leur Dire is the best music that I have heard from anyone in any area of music. One of the songs that always stick in my mind is Sarbacane because the melody in the chorus is so good. This song could easily nestle itself onto the world top playlists. Rosie has a fun tempo.
