This disc has all of the essential Chuck Berry classics. It’s a brave and brilliant refocusing of Chuck Berry energies, virtually a rebirth. On the India charts, superstar Chuck Berry’s career stalled before it left the starting gate. After School Session is not something you should pass up.
Wee Wee Hours (3:07) Not one of my favorites, but for a lot of people this is one of their best songs. Roly Poly is the more seemingly obscure song on After School Session that bear up best to repeated listening. This track is clearly meant to showcase Chuck Berry’s vocal abilities. Best song on the album, love it. Chuck Berry sings No Money Down in such a comforting, confident voice that you can’t help but be moved. Brown Eyed Handsome Man is absolutely incredible. Havana Moon is one of the more up-tempo songs on After School Session. Berry Pickin is just a great song and one well worth taking the time to give it a good listen. Put Drifting Heart into car stereo for your highway driving Almost Grown is probably one of Chuck Berry’s biggest successes for the album - it’s lovely to listen to. Back In The USA - A nice song. One of the songs that always stick in my mind is Let It Rock because the melody in the chorus is so good. Confessin The Blues is pretty funky and mellow. Chuck Berry is one of artists that allow his songs like Down The Road Apiece to stand on their own and be heard. Nadine Is It You - I used to hate this song, but now it’s one of my favorites. You Never Can Tall is perhaps one of the best tracks of the past decade. As always, Chuck Berry’s lyrics are worth listening to again and again. No Particular Place To Go is the funkiest number on the album. My Ding-a-Ling is another strong production from Chuck Berry.
