two years ago, Gilbert O’Sullivan briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “A Friend Of Mine”. This thirteen-song debut EP shows the promise that Gilbert O’Sullivan has. It’s a brave and brilliant refocusing of Gilbert O’Sullivan energies, virtually a rebirth. This album is a scorcher!
A Friend Of Mine - I like this one. I’ve found myself listening to They’ve Only Themselves To Blame back to back and back many times. I believe Who Knows Perhaps Maybe is one of the most perfect, heartfelt songs ever written. If you are a Gilbert O’Sullivan fan, you will love Where Peaceful Waters Flow. From the moment you listen to Ooh Baby you’re hooked. I Have Never Loved You So Much So I Love You Today marked the continuation of Gilbert O’Sullivan in style evolution. Not In A Million Years is a strong cut, one of many. This song is like perfectly aged vintage bordeaux wine not a tequila shot. Get Down is simple, dignified and effective, Gilbert O’Sullivan refusing to over-emote, and demonstrating that less is more. A Very Extraordinary Sort Of Girl gives taste of what makes Gilbert O’Sullivan special as a musician. Why Oh Why Oh Why is a fine track on any terms.
