On the Portugal charts, superstar Leonard Cohen’s career stalled before it left the starting gate. After seeing Minute Prologue, I had to have a good Leonard Cohen cd. I am not a real Folk music type of person, but i have to admit ‘Live Songs’ really is amazing. This album is awesome.
This track is clearly meant to showcase Leonard Cohen’s vocal abilities. You Know Who I Am without a doubt is the standout song of Live Songs. Bird On The Wire is the funkiest number on the album. One of the songs that always stick in my mind is Nancy because the melody in the chorus is so good. In Improvisation it becomes nowhere more obvious that Leonard Cohen has yet to define own style. It is succeeded by an outstanding track, however: Story Of Isaac, which shows, blatantly, how much Leonard Cohen has evolved as a singer. The sound of Please Don’t Pass Me By (A Disgrace) is difficult to describe, as it seems to squirm in a sensual manner, unlike anything ever created. Tonight Will Be Fine is kind of track that compels you to skip back and drink it in one more time before moving on through Live Songs. Queen Victoria is possibly the most mysterious and inexplicable track Leonard Cohen ever produced.
